Energy Transition & Settlement patterns

Planning for a Sustainable Future & Economy.
Nelson /Tasman Weekend Symposium
.

Our society mainly uses fossil fuels as an energy resource to power itself. This is especially true for all transportation which relies nearly completely on oil derived products. Not only does the burning of fossil fuels and oil accelerate global warming but it is also in a precarious state itself, being at or close to peak oil extraction rates. The imminent decline of fuel availability reflects in steeply rising average fuel prices. This in turn will lead to the continuing destructive consumption challenges our economic mode of operation, our infrastructure and our political processes. This symposium focuses in a workshop setting on a frank discussion of the energy transition we face, and on contributing to appropriate and practical responses that will help mitigate the risks arising from the large scale changes required on a local and national level.
